Last Thursday, it was the last Thursday of October. As usual, and as I have mentioned before on October 14th in the post “Business Club”, every last Thursday of the month we have our dinner with a bunch of Dutch speaking business men living in the Algarve. Last Thursday, I organised the dinner at Sabino’s, a restaurant in Vila Nova de Cacela. For once, instead of driving, I could just walk to the restaurant. Sabino’s is throughout the Algarve a very well known restaurant for its steak and “porco preto” - black pig on the stone. This means that the customers do have to prepare their own meat in front of them, on a hot stone. Maybe the chef chooses for this option in order to avoid any complaints about the meat being too done or being not “seignant” enough. Whatever! My friends enjoyed playing chef for one night. I, as usual, had a nice fish, which I did not have to prepare myself.
We started with a couple of drinks, then we had the usual Portuguese entrees, followed by the main dish, dessert and coffee. I had specifically asked the owner of the restaurant to serve us a wonderful Alentejo red wine which could not be found in the local supermarkets at very inexpensive prices which unfortunately is done too many times by other restaurants. Well, I must admit, the wine was excellent. Maybe a little too excellent having seen all the empty bottles afterwards.
I put in some pictures of that night, just as a little remembrance for the friends who came. Also to show to the others who did not show up what they have missed. The pictures are not the best quality as I had forgotten to bring my normal camera and therefore I had to take them with my cell-phone.
As usual, last Friday morning, life was pretty challenging!
